Busy busy bee

I've been very busy flitting around the country for the last couple of weeks and my laptop suddenly decided it didn't like electricity which isn't really conducive to blog posting.  I've seen some beautiful exhibitions and purchased some gorgeous fabrics so it was all worth while.

First off was the V&A's "Quilts: 1700 - 2010" exhibition.

There were some beautiful quilts from centuries ago but I was very disappointed with the modern day examples.  With all of the amazing artists out there making gorgeous quilts, why did they think Tracy Emin's dirty bed would be a good use of their funds?  And sheets of silk billowing from the ceiling may be beautiful but they most definitely are not a quilt!

Rant over.  While I was in London I got to meet up with some good friends that I haven't seen in a while and catch up on the gossip.  I also got a private tour of the foreign office which is very fancy.

On to Leeds where I stopped in to visit the boyfriend who is in complete exam stress meltdown.  I took him  to York for the day to try and relax him a bit and to celebrate his birthday.  We went to Jorvik Viking Centre (stinky as ever), York Castle Museum (oddly had nothing to do with Castles or York), wandered around the shops and then I dragged him to the Quilt Museum and Gallery run by The Quilter's Guild of The British Isles.

I felt very guilty for making him go there on his birthday but at the end of the day he said that it was the best thing we did all day.  It was beautiful, some unusual examples of quilting with very knowledgeable ladies around to chat to and answer all your questions.

It's good to be home though, I'm getting cracking with the Wedding Quilt and trying not to get distracted by all my other purchases.  More about them soon ...

A very productive weekend

As I mentioned before the boyfriend was here this weekend which gave me a chance to do some jobs that require two pairs of hands. First job was to put some shelves up in my room. The only things left to unpack since the move are all my boxes of text books and files. They needed some heavy duty shelves and these bad boys are about as strong as they get. Boyfriend could do chin-ups on them.

Second job was to finish off the quilt for Tamara, it should have been done weeks ago but I stupidly calculated the amount of material I needed wrong so I had to wait until I could get back to the shop for a top up. It's done now, though, I just need to find some way of getting it to her. Don't really want to risk the post because of the postal strike.

Here it is anyway, note boyfriends feet at the bottom, He comes in useful as a quilt stand too. It's made from the moda eclectic range and I stuck to two of Tamara's favourite colours. The quilting came out very well, I planned it so that the windmills look like they're spinning on the back but I couldn't get a good picture of it.

The Boyfriend is coming

I'm very excited because my boyfriend is coming to visit. I don't get to see him much because he's doing a six month secondment in London at the moment and is always too busy with work or studying for his exams to come up. I'm always too busy being ill or quilting to go down there!!! Only joking, we just haven't managed to get our act together for a while so I haven't seen him since 6th August.

He can tell me whether or not his mum will like the quilt I'm making for when we go out to visit her at New Year. Plus he can give me the 2 month supply of hugs I've missed out on - yay!
